The most anticipated opening of the hunting season
Many eagerly await the start of pest bird hunting as much as others anticipate moose hunting. Throughout the summer, crows and jackdaws have nested and raised their young undisturbed, and now it's time to return to the field edge to lure the birds. This is also an excellent opportunity to practically test new and old equipment – especially crow calls and the jackdaw call deserve a thorough trial run right at the beginning of the season.
Calls put to the test: Green Crow, HEKE, and JD
The season's opening is the best time to compare the functionality of the calls in a real-life situation:

Green Crow and HEKE crow calls are already standard equipment for many pest bird hunters – now we'll see which one is more effective at luring this autumn's bird population.

JD jackdaw call will also be tested on jackdaw flocks. Jackdaws often move in large flocks, so the right sound plays a big role in successful luring.
It's worth trying different calls patiently and varying the vocalizations – the same sound series or sequence doesn't always work. Adjust your calling as needed and change to different sound tones.
Three tips for early-season hunting
1. Leave the owl at home in the autumn
In autumn, the owl usually doesn't work as effectively as in spring. Crows and jackdaws don't react to it nearly as strongly as during the nesting season, so in the early season, it's worth focusing on other luring methods.
2. Young birds are active and susceptible to luring in the early season
This summer's fledglings are still inexperienced and actively moving around looking for food. They react more easily to both sound and visual luring than older, more experienced birds. This makes the beginning of August a particularly opportune time for a successful hunt.
3. Reconnaissance leads to good results
Good reconnaissance often determines the success of a hunt. Scout where the crows, jackdaws, and gulls are and where they move, and try to get to the same field. Decoys, good camouflage, and functional calls usually win the game.
